Useful Arbeitsloser (Useful Jobless)
EN | Useful Arbeitsloser is a series of furniture that reflects the life of its designer. A scaffolding resembled a life of a designer who lives in a foreign country in a way that it is always passed by, constructed and moved away without much attention, while being a necessary element in construction sites.
Useful Arbeitsloser is assembled pieces of furniture. The brass joints symbolize the weight of life and the act of screwing the joints is a part of a life to create comfort. While life becomes heavy and our space of living gets more spacious, the furniture we have around us are getting lighter and feels more indifferent. The form and structure of Useful Arbeitsloser is a story of nomad, imperfect lives and furniture of the contemporaries.
KR | 유용한 실업자는 디자이너 자신의 삶이 반영된 가구 시리즈이다. 외국 생활은 항상 언어 문제, 소속감, 정체성 때문에 심리적인 방황을 겪었다. 공사현장에 꼭 필요하지만 늘 무심코 지나치며 있는 듯 없는 듯 생겼다가 사라지는 건축비계에서 영감을 받아 외국에서의 내 삶과 닮아 있다고 생각했다. ‘난 꼭 이 세상에 필요한 사람이야’라고 생각하지만 아무도 알아봐주지 않는 실업자. 유용한 실업자는 소속감에 대해 고민하고 불안전한 디자이너 혹은 예술가의 삶이다. 잠시 쉬어가는 벤치, 생활 대부분의 시간을 보내는 책상, 그리고 지식과 삶의 시간이 모여 있는 책장.
유용한 실업자의 가구는 모두 조립식으로, 황동으로 된 조인트는 디자이너 삶의 무게를, 조인트를 돌리는 행위 또한 편안함을 만들어 가는 삶의 일부분이다. 삶은 무거워지고 생활의 공간은 넓어지지만 우리에게 필요한 가구들은 가벼워지며 무신경해진다. 유용한 실업자의 형태와 구조는 현대인의 노매드, 불안전한 삶과 가구에 관해 이야기하고 있다.
