Every time you enter a room you turn a doorknob, yet you rarely notice it or remember doing it. The Doorknob explores this kind of invisible action: the turning, rotating, spinning, circling and pivoting that carry us through everyday life without passing through conscious thought. Drawing on the idea that much human activity isn't guided by deliberate choice, the work slows these familiar movements down until we can see them again. It asks what happens when gestures we normally live through without noticing become strange and visible.

Upon a stage of domestic theatricality in a world of filmic meta-theatre, a director, an actor and an artist fluidly exchange critiques and identities as The Chair lurks in the shadowy background. The three characters interchange roles, each trying their hand at the performing of a monologue and each time critiquing the flaws of the performer. No conclusions are found and no questions are answered — instead, more are raised. The characters eventually devolve into a confused exchange of blame, as they struggle to understand the nature of their task and the reason for their being there, until the director breaks and delivers his own monologue of catharsis to the invisible audience before finding an absurd and confused critical response from the artist and the actress.

The year 2020 is not the year that the ultimate human dream came true. It is the year that we had to embrace illogical, abnormal, or absurd behaviour. We have lost our social, haptic, and spatial experience. One of the greatest theatre plays of all time, Waiting for Godot, is strongly relevant today, absurdly. The consequences of object-making have been shifted as well. Thus, not only are we waiting for Godot, but also we should be able to ‘searching’ for Godot.
The aim is to search for shifting relationships between objects, functions, and behaviour. Objects that we encounter every day to let our bodies move, touch, and motivate.
I have been questioning the relationship and acknowledgment between objects and my attitude toward them. I have been shown via three-dimensional works, but they are not eternal when the material is used as a medium in the time of an absurd world. I shifted my perspective to look at my practice as well as searching for a shifted relationship.
Now, I’m expanding additionally with experimental video works as one of the ways of sharing the experience with others, rather than relying on the form only. I hope that this initiative will function as an interface for my future work, and I would gladly like to invite you to the new stage in search of new engagement.
